AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME — Marshfield H.S. journalism shines at national convention

Congratulations to Marshfield Times, Coos Bay, Ore., taking fourth place in nation Best of Show for newspapers at the JEA/NSPA national convention held in Minneapolis, Minn last weekend.

In addition, three students received awards in the competitive national write-off competition. Two of those students — editorial cartoonist Lucia Vaughan and newspaper designer Lisa Donato, won top awards at NWSP’s Write-Off competition, designed to prepare Oregon students for the national write-off contests in the fall and spring. The next convention will be held in Seattle in April.

The three Marshfield Times staff members who won awards in the JEA Write-Off competition:

There were 1,678 participants and 669 award recipients (40%). Of those, 119 received Superiors (18%), 217 received Excellents (32%), and 333 received Honorable Mentions (50%) in more than 46 categories of competition.
